
How to Study Integrated Science: Connect Concepts, Problems and Experiments
The short answer: study Integrated Science in three stages: understand the phenomenon, connect it to more than one scientific discipline, then apply it through a diagram, investigation or calculation. Memorisation alone is unreliable when a question combines concepts.
What does “integrated” mean when you study?
It is not simply physics, chemistry and biology placed side by side. It is the relationship between them. A topic such as water can involve chemical properties, biological effects, heat transfer and environmental systems. Keep asking: what causes this, what follows, and how does another discipline help explain it?
A five-step lesson routine
- Read the title and identify the phenomenon or problem.
- Write the essential terms in your own words.
- Draw a cause–process–effect map.
- Answer one explanation question and one calculation or graph question.
- Give a two-minute closed-book explanation.
Handling calculations and graphs
List values with their units, identify the required quantity and select the scientific relationship before substituting numbers. For graphs, read both axes and units and describe the trend before drawing a conclusion. When an answer is wrong, decide whether the cause was conceptual, mathematical or a misreading of the question.
Use safe, simple observations
Everyday examples such as condensation or comparing how food-safe substances dissolve can make an idea concrete. Do not mix unknown substances or attempt hazardous experiments. The purpose is to connect observation with a scientific question.
